2020 – A YEAR IN REVIEW

Well, what a rollercoaster of a year it has been. From fires, to floods and then COVID, the unpredictable start to this year certainly brought a significant amount of fear and anxiety into our lives. Dire predictions of businesses at risk, the loss of jobs, virus outbreaks close to home and significant property market adjustments, for the most part, have not come to fruition for our Berry community. We have been extremely fortunate to say the least.

We know our local businesses and primary producers have been appreciative of the abundance of locals and visitors who have rallied to support them, and the town, in the face of 2020.

In terms of the property market, there were 138 property sales for the calendar year so far. Many of these sales have been families making the move to Berry or investors seeing the great potential in our town. It seems Berry’s reputation as a thriving town continues to grow.

While much of this year has felt like doom and gloom, with many global and local events being at the forefront of our minds, there are some amazing and beautiful things that happened along the way. Here are just some of the silver linings to reflect upon:

• Many people brushing up on their sewing skills to make masks for people who need them the most
• More people checked in on their neighbours and made connections within our community
• Local shop owners offered home delivery services to those unable to get out
• Sure we might have gained a little weight, however we did rediscover our love for old board games, baking and gardening
• We learned that homeschooling is hard and finally recognised teachers for their hard work and patience
• We became more respectful of others personal space and gained more patience overall
• We decided how and where we wanted to live, without the constraints of being tied to our desks
• We prioritised our family and we communicated more often to our family overseas and interstate.
• We learnt how to work smarter, more efficiently to bring some more balance to our lives.

We hope that the Christmas period gives you time to relax with family and friends, to reflect on the year that has been, and to set goals for the new year. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas.
